We are selling 90 of our yaks at auction! We love our yaks, but we want to pare down our herd to 60 head for future operations.
For general questions about yaks, visit our FAQ page. They make very healthy, lean red meat. Cows weigh 500 – 600 pounds, steers weigh 800 – 900 pounds, and bulls weigh 1,000 – 1,200 pounds full-grown. It takes 3 years for a yak to grow to full size, but they eat 1/3 what a cow does!
One bull can produce around 25 offspring per year, and yaks can have a calf every year (as long as their calf from the year prior is weaned).
Yak wool is a luxury fiber, highly sought after. They shed once a year. If you work with them, yaks are very friendly, lovable animals. They can be ridden or used as pack animals. Their average lifespan is around 25 – 30 years.
Number 93 is one of our consistent calf-producing yaks! She is probably 7-8 years old (remember yaks live to ~25). She had babies in 2020, 2021, and 2023. This yak is for sale with her calf that she had in April!
This pretty royal bull is 1.5 – 2 years old, he will get much bigger! Royal yaks are black and white – producing valuable luxury wool.
Number 37 is a trim yak we’re selling with her calf. Trim means she is black with some white on her legs and head. She had babies in 2021, and 2023. This yak is for sale with her calf.
Number 28 is a cow yak who had a baby in 2022. She is a native yak, meaning she has a grey nose and black wool. She is probably 7 – 9 years old.
Number 106 had a baby in 2021. She is probably 6-8 years old (remember, yaks live to ~25). She is an imperial yak, meaning that her nose is all black, as well as her body.
Number 112 has a calf (although not pictured). She also had calves in 2020 and 2021. She is probably 7-8 years old (yaks live to ~25).
Number 26 is one of our favorites! He has a mellow temperament and is one of our friendliest yaks. He is a full-grown steer, probably 7-9 years old. He is a royal yak meaning he’s black and white.
*Disclaimer: we have the right to change our minds and bring different yaks to auction than what is listed here. We will try our best to have accurate representation here, but be aware that things might change slightly before auction day.
